The historical city of Tianshui has been a world-renowned place since ancient times. This is the birth place of Chinese peoples grandfather Fuxi and grandmother Nüwa. Having ambition when in his teenage

Li Sheng, who became the youngest winner of the Second Invention&Innovation Prize of National Invention Association in 2006, doesnt succeed accidentally. The phrase that he always says is: a teenagers heart should fly high. His invention and innovation is the reflection of this phrase.
Li Sheng, who is both diligent and intelligent, is fond of mechanical drawing since he was a child. When he graduated from middle shool, Li Sheng, who got excellent marks and very strong ability of using his hands, gave up his opportunity of going to college and chose a way which is filled with hardships ---going to the technical secondary school to learn mechanical designing. Many people felt his choice a pity, but three years study improved Li Shengs ability of recongnizing drawing and making drawing greatly.
Li Shulin, Li Shengs father, is an entrepreneur who built up with nothing depending on inventing patents. But the development of the enterprise is not smooth. In 1992, Mr. Li Shulins Shulin Medical Apparatus and Equipment Factory met with continous difficulties. Seeing his father being so worried and withered day by day, Li felt very painful. Pushed by his will of sharing disaster with his father and making achievement, young Li gave up the iron bowl without any hesitation and took up the burden of designing and debuddging.
For numerous winter and summer nights, the father conceived and the son drew, correcting the blueprint time and again, the blueprints piled up pretty high and the notebooks were all over their desk. No pains, no gains. Finally, the father and the son developed the fully-automatic high-performance rubbing-pill machine.
This machine was first tested in Tianshui Pharmaceutical Factory. The father and the son operated the sample machine which they designed elaborately. The pills came out from the mouth of the machine, gleamy and clean, with stable weight, the production efficiency and the quality is much higher than the traditional equipments. It can make pills of size￠3- ￠8mm. There is no dust pollution so the operational environment is clear and clean. None of those present didnt speak highly of the machine and the intensive study energy of the father and the son. They decided to order the machine at once so that the operational environment could be improved completely ,the labor productivity and products quality could be upgraded.
In order to protect the patent technology, Li applied the second patent--- the fully-automatic high-performance rubbing-pill machine, and he changed the name of the enterprise to Huayuan, which means great China, great reunion. With the support of Tianshui Science and Technology Commission, short run production of rubbing-pill machine began, this abruptly solved the difficult situation of the enterprise. Seeing the steady development of the enterprise and Li who is growing maturely, the father decided to quit and devolute power to the new one. In 1998, Li replaced his father and became the youngest manager among private enterprises in Tianshui. At that time, he was only 25 years old.

Self-innovation

Young Li says:Only through continous innovation can one have vigorous life-force and not be washed out of the daedal market. One or two patents cant meet the market needs, we must develop new products and widen the structure of products ceaselessly, only in this way can we not be defeated. And then he produced, studied and developed at the same time, in 3 years time, he studied the theoretical and applicable knowledge of intelligentialization and automatization, after he tried time and again, he succeeded in manufacturing intelligentialized high-performance making-pill machine, becoming the third generation patent.
Li noticed that if the microwave technology is applied to the processing technic of Chinese medicine instead of traditional one, this will have a profound influence on the development of Chinese pharmaceutical industry. After hundreds nights struggle, he finally developed the fourth patent---the tunnel-style microwave drying sterilizer. In 2001, the companys name was changed into Tianshui Huayuan Pharmaceutical Equipment Technology Co., Ltd.. At present, Huayuan has gained over 20 national patents. Nay, since 2005, Li has applied nearly 60 patents early or later. The birth speed of patents, the amount of declaration, the amount of authorization has been surging year on year.
The microwave extraction product line, the tunnel-style microwave sterilization equipment, the vaccum microwave drying equipment, the low-temperature microwave drying equipment, which are all designed and invented by Li, all accord with GMP standard and national standard of microwave leakage ≤5mw/cm; to realize one machine with many usages; to be made of fine quality stainless steel, the whole machine adopts human-machine conversation interface, to realize intellectulized operation. To match flexible butt joint forward and afterword processing unit equipment to the large spec equipment. The front unit equipment is cleaning and cutting up equipment, the back equipment is smashing equipment, it can both form a product line and operate in unit. This upgrades the technology of Chinese medical equipment, increase the automatical level as a whole.
Li realized that if one wants to occupy the medical equipment market, to expand market share, he must make the equipment a series and to finish seriation, talents are the key important factor. He began to recruit talents nation wide, he went to the southern sity like Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shenzhen, Shanghai to retain science and technology employees to devote themselves into the development of supported products and microwave products. At present, Huayuan has the ability to design and produce five series, that is pill-making, microwave drying and sterilizing, microwave extracting, packaging, medical instruments. The spec of products exceeds 300. Huayuan now occupies 57% of market share.

Becoming stronger and stronger

In order to expand strength and look for more development space, Li set up companies in Guangzhou and Shanghai. The equipments can be used in the fields of foodstuff, chemical industry, building material, etc. the foreground is becoming wider and wider.

After Li became rich, he doesnt forget countrymen who has given him great help. He kindly refused invitation from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, etc to ask for his moving the headquarter to these places, he insists running an enterprise in Tianshui.
Li never mentions his righteous act undertaken for the public good, the ones he really appreciates are those who helped Huayuan when it is in a difficult situation.  
With the continuous improvement of the products, the achievement of Huayuan is surging year on year from less than 5 million production value in 2001 to 60 million in 2004. And then, Li put his eyesight to the international market. At the beginning of 2004, Huayuan gained the certificate of import and export qualification of PRC, and this makes it possible to sell the products to the world.
